It was designed to be used in AR-pattern rifles with only a barrel change to convert a traditional AR-15 rifle from 5.56 NATO. Note: 178 GR bullets can be used for all 180 GR data listed. One of the hottest new rounds to emerge in the past few years is 300 Blackout this is a true dual-purpose intermediate sized cartridge that can be fired in both subsonic and supersonic loads. 308" bullets: 178 GR Hornady BTHP Match & A-Max COAL: 2.210" or 180 GR Hornady IB, SST, RN, BTSP & SP COAL: 2.210" maximum COAL: 2.260" maximum case length: 1.368" trim to length: 1.358". Gun: Advanced Armament Corporation AR-15 barrel length: 16 inches case: Remington primer: Winchester Small Rifle bullet diameter. Warning! Notes: This data was shot by Brian Pearce, Wolfe Publishing Company. 300 Blackout (Using 178/180 GR Hornady Bullets) A buddy of mine tried some Hornady RN with little luck but the Seirra RN would cycle/feed ok most of the time.300 Whisper /. Even though they both are round nose bullets they have a different profile. but the OP was referring to Hornady round nose, looks like you was using Sierra round nose. Hi-Standard 300blk, 16" barrel, carbine length gas tube, AAC Cyclone-K. Both fed, cycled, grouped and BHO'd although the velocities were a surprise. I'll try some RN's loaded longer than 2.100 COAL and see how they feed and shoot.īird wrote:I just got back from the range (as in 20 minutes ago) with some chrony data using 220 SMK's and 220 RN's. They might not feed as well being so short. This should approximate the same internal volume and get me closer on fps. AA9 Sierra lists it for super thru sub sonic loadings for 300 whisper. Vihtavuori N120 Sierra lists it for super thru sub sonic loadings for 300 whisper. I'm also going to measure the headspace inside the cartridge of the 220 SMK's and compare to the 220 RN's without making adjustments to the seating die. Alliant 300mp seems to show promise for super sonic loadings. 5 grain of powder for my next loads of the RN's at this COAL. Since the RN's are so much shorter than the SMK's, there was a lot more head space inside the cartridge and it really showed in the velocities as both were loaded to the same respective powder charges. The RN's were seated initially without making any adjustments to the seating die but looked to be really short, so I pulled the first one and re-seated to 2.100 which, if I remember was an increase of 0.1"-ish. 223 Remington/5.56 NATO AR magazines, limiting overall loaded length (OAL) to 2.26 inches. As they were loaded, they were pretty much a compressed load although I didn't measure. The Blackout allows for the creation of supersonic loads with bullets weighing 90 to 180 grains and subsonic (less than 1,125 fps) loads popular with suppressor owner with 200- to 230-grain bullets. I'll have to keep working down the charge to get them subsonic. Designed to expand at velocities down to 900 fps. Other features: Impact velocities of 960 to 1,020 fps into ballistic gelatin, providing 16-18 penetration and 90+ weight retention. The SMK's were loaded to max magazine length. Performance of the 300 Blackout Subsonic load meets or exceeds FBI Protocol terminal ballistic test requirements. There’s no doubt: Suppressed 300 Blackout Subsonic shooting is a TON of fun When I think of close-quarters shooting with an AR-15, 300 Blackout subs are my go-to ammunition. All rounds shot suppressed.Ģ20 gr Sierra Match King loaded to 2.260 COAL, Lake City Brass, Win small rifle primer, 11.3 and 11.5 grains H4198. I just got back from the range (as in 20 minutes ago) with some chrony data using 220 SMK's and 220 RN's. ![]()
